Real Madrid ran out 2-1 winners in El Clasico on Sunday, a victory that was as important for Los Blancos mentally as it was in the title race. The Santiago Bernabeu saw an especially fired up Real Madrid side for the visit of Barcelona, as they looked to snap a four-game losing streak.
Before the match though, all of the intention was on Lamine Yamal, after his comments accusing Real Madrid of ‘robbing decisions’ and impacting on officials went viral. The 18-year-old’s assertions went down poorly in the capital, and already before the match, there was talk that veteran Spain teammate Dani Carvajal was going to have some choice words for Lamine Yamal after the match.

Lamine Yamal involved in melee at the end of El Clasico
The 33-year-old was not lying. After an exchange of ‘pleasantries’ between Lamine Yamal and Carvajal, the Barcelona star turned back for some more. However as soon as he did so, he found himself confronted by a wall of Real Madrid players keen to give him their own thoughts on his declarations.
‘You talk too much’, Carvajal had been seen gesturing to Lamine Yamal, while the latter responded ‘same goes for you’. The ensuing melee then saw a number of yellow cards handed out, and Vinicius Junior being led down the tunnel.
‘Thank you Lamine Yamal’ – Real Madrid dressing room
According to El Chiringuito, after the match their feelings towards their adversary had softened. ‘Thank you Lamine Yamal’ was supposedly the most repeated phrase in the home dressing room, with the Real Madrid players believing that his comments before the game gave them an extra edge and fire to spur them onto victory.

Whether it would have changed much is unclear, but certainly the feeling in Spain is that Lamine Yamal’s certainly did not help Barcelona at the Bernabeu.
