Barcelona have started drawing up plans for the summer transfer window, and while it is Deco’s responsibility, Hansi Flick is determined to have a big say. The expectation is that there will not be many signings made, especially given that there are still significant financial problems at the Catalan club despite their return to La Liga’s 1:1 rule in January.
Deco is keen for a new attacker to be brought in, but for Flick, his focus is on defensive recruits. Jonathan Tah is expected to sign as a free agent upon the expiry of his Bayer Leverkusen contract, and alongside him, there should be a another defender coming in – if the Barcelona head coach gets his way.
As reported by Sport, Flick wants Barcelona to bring in a new full-back – specifically, he wants a player that is capable of operating on both the right and left.

Flick is clear that Barcelona’s defensive balance can be improved for big matches, such as the 4-4 draw against Atletico Madrid earlier this week. His idea is that an ambidextrous full-back will complete his squad for the defensive perspective, and the club agrees – as a result, they will go to great lengths to ensure that his request is honoured.
At the moment, Barcelona already have a player that fits into this profile: Hector Fort. However, his lack of regular first team action suggests that he is not overly counted on by Flick for the time being, and there are even rumours that he could be sent out on loan for the 2025-26 season in order to secure regular playing time.
It will be interesting to see who Barcelona target as full-back options for the summer. There are not too many options available to them that can play on either flank, especially considering that they will not want to spend too much as the player that would be arriving would not do so as a starter, but as a backup option to Jules Kounde and Alejandro Balde.
