Over the last few months, Barcelona sporting director Deco has been leading the club’s pursuit of new deals for several first team players. Pedri and Gavi are the most advanced, while the cases of Ronald Araujo and Frenkie de Jong are not too far behind.
With Araujo, there is a lot of confidence that he will end of signing a new contract before the end of the season. The case is different for Frenkie de Jong, who has shown no willingness until now to extend his stay in Catalonia, which is due to end in 2026.
However, Alfred Martinez has now reported that Barcelona president Joan Laporta is of the belief that de Jong does want to stay, and as such, he expects contract talks to go well over the coming months.
However, should de Jong (or Araujo) not agree a new contract before next summer’s transfer opens, they will be put up for sale. Barcelona have no plans to allow any player to run down their current deal, which is why this approach will be taken.
